Ordination is the process by which individuals are consecrated, that is, set apart as clergy to perform various religious rites and ceremonies. Deacon Brian Russell was ordained at St. Mary’s Cathedral Church in Kingston back on June 8, 2018 and I am finally blogging about this celebration as Easter approaches.
As a photographer, I am exposed to many events and joyous celebrations. It is always such a privilege but I have to say to experience an Ordination for me is rare as it is for most of us I’m sure. Watching all of these Bishops come together to participate in the celebration and process of the ordination of Deacon Russell was interesting, fascinating, and very comforting to witness. Watching how proud his parents and grandmother were of him, I found to be so lovely. How could any parent not be proud of their son and his accomplishments?
Children I believe succeed more often than not when they have their parents support and backing. When you can go out into the world and follow your dreams knowing that no matter what happens, succeed or fail, you can always fall back on your parents. They are there to support you and help you get to where you want to be in life. Not that I believe it cannot be done on one’s own initiative, but I believe it’s what a parent should do for their child. A parent is there to raise their children to be the best possible human being they can be in society. And how much sweeter is it when you accomplish what you set out to do with your life to be able to look behind you or back at how you got there and see two amazing loving parents cheering you on all along the way. What a great feeling that is.
So at the end of the ceremony Deacon Russell became Father Brian Russell and I had the pleasure and honor of capturing that for him and his family. So I wanted to give them a portrait that shows both Father Brian’s accomplishment and his parents support and how proud of him they are.
