Feathers, feathers and more feathers. The beginnings of some interesting fine art portraits. But what is a Fine Art Portrait.
I believe that a fine art portrait photograph is intended to be wall art. Fine art portrait photography delivers maximum impact and depicts emotion in a vivid and distinctive style. These portraits are usually timeless and capture the essence of the subject’s character in a vision created by the photographer with the subject in mind.
If the image is something that could be hung in an art gallery, it’s fine art. If you have carefully planned your photoshoot and had a very specific concept in mind, then your results would be classified as fine art.
When Joanna first contacted me to chat about having a Fine Art Portrait session for herself and her girls, she mentioned that she loved feathers. Especially the image she had seen on my web page with the rooster feather collar. I love my feathers too so I was so thrilled that she wanted to incorporate them into her portraits. We also discussed why this session was important to have done at this point in her life. When she mentioned some recent artwork she had purchased I had her send pictures of it to me and immediately I found myself inspired. I knew I had to make a photograph that reflected everything she had discussed while also creating something that had the emotion she was experiencing. I also need to capture her children’s personalities and one thing I found interesting was that while the girls were being photographed at the studio, I had totally experienced a different perception of those personalities that Joanna had described and when she told me I had it backwards, I was so surprised. The one that was supposed to be a little quieter and shy was the one that was much more outgoing and a bit of a performer, hence the red top hat. It just goes to show you sometimes that we can see our children in a totally different light than what others do.
I see some of these images hanging on their wall for years to come.
