Meeting Alexandra and Craig for the first time after our telephone conversations regarding their upcoming wedding was such a treat. The weather was perfect after all the rain we’ve been having so boating across the St. Lawrence River to Beaurivage Island was fabulous. It’s made me want to get out into my own boat and stay out there all summer long. If only I could.
Before heading over to Beaurivage Island, we enjoyed wandering both inside and outside Alexandra’s parent’s cottage. The feeling you get when you can sit back and relax with family and friends is exactly how they all made me feel while photographing, chatting and getting to know one another. Inside hanging on the walls were numerous old family photos that really tells a history. A history of a family that has spent years and years growing up and growing together at a place. A simple place that’s become special. A home away from home. Images of children being silly. Children floating in old tire inner-tubes enjoying life simply. Images of children having accomplished small feats like swimming out to a water marker and hanging off it while their photo is taken. One generation after another. It’s a place were the making of memories has occurred for years and will be for years to come. It’s pure awesomeness and reminded me so much of my own childhood growing up on Stoco Lake and inner-tubing down the rapids on the Lost Channel in Tweed.
Part of their memories happened just across the river on an island. So over we went and hiked around the pathways and rocks and to one particular spot where as children, Alexandra jumped off the rocks and swam. Gananoque really does have some of the best places on earth to enjoy and I loved that these two shared this with me and that we were able to capture some more memories to lock away for themselves and to share with their family as it will undoubtedly grow.
I can’t wait for their wedding at Lake On the Mountain.
