Ottawa provides a wonderful backdrop for Alycia and Mitchell’s engagement session since they originally met and started their relationship at Carleton University. We decided that we had to use the place that held such significance in their lives since this is where they both started their road to their careers and relationship. So we met up at Carleton University. We also wandered the area at Hoggs Back. I still cannot believe that when I lived in Ottawa myself, and just minutes away from this location, that I never knew it existed until last year. We of course traversed the rocky hillside down to the water’s edge. I knew the riverbank would provide a great backdrop to their love. Hoggs Back is such a beautiful place to stroll with your loved ones and relax and take in the waterfalls. I loved that the breeze was taking Alycia’s hair and gently brushing it across her face as she smiled. Despite the evening being overcast with a hint of rain for the next day, the sun peeked out for just a few minutes allowing me to capture some gorgeous light setting on the couple while exploring the university’s grounds. We even got to see a little gofer peeking its head out before scurrying about its business. He was a little camera shy and moved too quickly for me to have gotten a shot of him unfortunately. I thought it really cool as well that while shooting at Hoggs Back, we could capture the University in the background at the same time.
I’m looking forward to capturing more lovely moments with this couple on their wedding day with their family and friends. They are so sweet with one another and their joy really shows when you’re with them. I also think Mitchell’s favorite thing that day was nibbling on Alycia’s neck. lol
